Who we are

Our Background

The Information Lab was established in the United Kingdom in 2010 by Tom Brown to help people make sense of data. In pursuit of this vision, the company's initial focus was on equipping thousands of people and companies with the skills and software they needed to effectively work with data. We were among the first premier partners of Tableau and Alteryx in the United Kingdom, and the success of our consulting and training team led to The Information Lab expanding into eight different countries across Europe. In 2022, we opened our newest office in the United States.

As demand increased the availability of data consultants along with the ability of data teams across all organizations to expand became an issue. To address this we created The Data School with its mission to introduce thousands of people to careers in data analytics. We have so far completed over one thousand consulting projects and launched the careers of hundreds of data professionals.

All of this has been underpinned by our values of maintaining a curiosity to learn, sharing knowledge far and wide, creativity and most of all growing and supporting our data community.

The Information Lab expanded to the United States in 2022, establishing its first American office in New York City. Under the leadership of Managing Director Toby Sharpe, The Information Lab US is continuing the mission of helping people and businesses make sense of their data.

In addition to supporting businesses with their data analytics needs, The Information Lab US launched The Data School, the premier consultant training program designed to help individuals start their careers in the data field. The Data School New York is located in Civic Hall, a state-of-the-art training and events hub for NYC's tech economy.
